  • 'Quick Wins' - minor cycling infrastructure improvements in Camden

Created by George Coulouris // 2 threads

Camden officers have indicated that they would like to receive prioritised list of suggestions for (very) minor improvements throughout the borough that will make cyclists feel better catered for. Examples of changes that will be considered:
    - dropped kerbs
    - obstructive barriers (i.e. anti-motor cycle barriers)
    - stretches of poor road surface (such that you have slow down on a Brompton or weave around holes)
    - Feeders into ASLs that are too short or non-mandatory

Changes that shouldn't be suggested for this initiative include:
    - anything that would require a local consultation
    - anything that involves changes to parking provision
    - individual pot-holes

To compile a list, we want suggestions from members. The Council's deadline is Monday November 25th. So can we have members' suggestions by Wednesday November 20th please. That will allow time for us to compile a list and circulate it here for comment.

  • Regent's Park allowing motor traffic in before the 7 am time

Created by Mixhael // 1 thread

In common with quite a few cyclists I set my alarm clock early so I can do few laps of Regent's Park Outer Circle while it is closed to through traffic (Midnight to 7 am).

However the gates are increasingly opened earlier and earlier. This morning it was 6:30 am.

I've written to the Royal Parks who have helpfully said this shouldn't be happening and have passed my enquiry to the Crown Estates Paving Commission who manage the gates.

Who in their turn have unhelpfully said they only have one operative to open the gates and basically 'tough'.

I asked them if they could at least open the northern gates last but they haven't replied.

Any suggestions how this can be moved forward?

  • TfL Consultation: CS5 Cycle Superhighway

Created by Shaun McDonald // 1 thread

    Overview
Barclays Cycle Superhighways are cycle routes running between outer and central London. They provide new cycle lanes and other dedicated infrastructure so that cyclists can enjoy swift, direct, safer journeys around the city. We have developed plans for a new route and would like to hear your views.

    What are we consulting on?
We’re proposing to introduce a new cycle route between New Cross Gate and Victoria. Barclays Cycle Superhighway Route 5 (CS5) would run via Peckham, Camberwell, Kennington and Vauxhall.

    Proposed road layout changes
The new route would bring substantial changes to the road layout to improve safety for cyclists, including:

More space for cyclists and buses, through reallocation of road space

New mandatory cycle lanes, all at least 1.5 metres wide

Improvements for cyclists at 52 junctions, including new Advanced Stop Lines, cycle feeder lanes, and speed reduction measures

An innovative cycle ‘early-start’ facility at Vauxhall Bridge Road/Millbank to help cyclists get ahead of traffic

Banning some turns for cars and lorries to reduce conflict with cyclists

Extended 20mph speed limit in New Cross

    Other benefits

Over 3,000 new cycle parking spaces along the route

    Cycle safety checks

    Free cycle training

Industry-recognised safety training for drivers of large goods vehicles
